Foreign fund registration of Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar's daughter's organization cancelled

New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has canceled the registration under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) of the Center for Policy Research (CPR), an organization headed by Congress leader Mani Shankar Iyer's daughter Yamini Iyer. With the cancellation of this registration, now Iyer's organization will not be able to receive funds from abroad. Senior leaders and well-known people like former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have been members of this organization.

Meanwhile, the organization CPR released a statement and said that due to this action of the Ministry of Home Affairs, it will become difficult for the organization to work. Because all the ways to get our funds have been blocked. A survey was conducted by the IT department in September, 2022, since then the organization was on the radar. Earlier on October, 2022, the central government canceled the registration of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust for foreign funds. The leadership of both these organizations was in the hands of the then president of the Congress, Sonia Gandhi. Recently, some information has been given on the website that the registration of Iyer's organization has been cancelled. According to which this organization has been working as a think tank since 1973. It has also been claimed that this organization is independent and not affiliated with any political party. The institute has also received foreign funds from Bill Gates, Melinda Gates Foundation, Hewlett Foundation, World Bank, Ford Foundation, Brown University etc. Former Chief Justice YV Chandrachud, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, senior journalist B.G. Varghese etc. have been members.

These allegations were leveled against the organization

A report claimed that the organization was accused of giving funds to social activist Teesta Setalvad's NGO. This organization is mainly helping in formulating the policies of the country. In which senior thinkers gather on a platform and discuss policies. The organization claims that its aim is to develop the Indiana ecosystem. There are reports of cancellation of its registration for foreign funds due to some financial irregularities. In the past, the central government has taken action against many NGOs receiving funds from abroad.
