World's saddest elephant has finally said goodbye to this world at the age of 43.

An elephant living in a zoo in Manila, Philippines died on Tuesday. This female elephant named Mali was alone in the zoo. Mali, who has lived alone in a zoo for more than 40 years, was declared the world's saddest elephant by the animal welfare organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

On his death, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna said that he died on Tuesday afternoon. No one knew her exact age but she was estimated to be 43 years old. Meyer himself recalled seeing Mali during a visit to the zoo as a child.

He said, Mali was special to us. She was the charm of our zoo and everyone is saddened by her death.

When the zoo doctor said that Mali was rubbing her head against a wall and we felt that she was in pain. On Tuesday, his condition worsened. Breathing heavily, she fell to the ground. He was given treatment but died in the afternoon. He was found to have pancreatic cancer in the post mortem.

Mali was gifted by the Sri Lankan government to the then first lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos, in 1981. An elephant named Shiva was her friend at the zoo, but after his death in 1990, Mali became lonely.
