The central government has launched a new Agniveer scheme to recruit soldiers in all three wings of the country's army. Under this scheme, a certain amount will be given after completion of service in the army but there is no provision for getting pension. The central government is said to have taken this step as the cost of army pensions is rising.
Opposition groups called for the plan to be discussed, reconsidered and for the current system to continue.
Meanwhile, BJP MP and senior leader Varun Gandhi is also now embroiled in the controversy.
Gandhi said in a tweet that these soldiers who are defending the country for a short period should get a pension. He has asked a sharper question that if Agnivir does not get pension for a short period then why do people's representatives (MPs, MLAs, councilors) also get pension in this way?
In a tweet, Gandhi said that we MLAs and MPs should give up their pensions and ensure that Agniveer gets a pension. In addition, Gandhi himself has said in this tweet that he is ready to give up his pension.
Agnivirs who serve for a short period are not entitled to pension, so why this 'convenience' to the people's representatives?

National defenders do not have the right to pension, so I am also ready to give up my own pension.
Can't we MLAs / MPs leave their pensions and ensure that the firefighters get pensions?
