The Indian Air Force will procure a total of 116 fighter jets, including three manufactured in the country

The Indian Air Force is planning to buy 115 fighter jets, four of which will be built in India. The remaining 12 projects will be imported from selected foreign vendors.

It may be mentioned that Nirman Yojana is being formulated under Atmanirbhar Bharat Yojana by the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Indian Air Force plans to procure 115 multirole fighter aircraft under the Buy Global and Made in India scheme.

According to government sources, the Indian Air Force recently held a meeting with foreign vendors and held talks with them on finalizing the Make in India project.

Sources said that according to the plan, after the initial import of 15 aircraft, the next three aircraft will be manufactured domestically while the payment will be made in part in foreign currency and Indian currency.

Sources said the final 20 aircraft would be the main responsibility of the Indian partner and the government would pay only in Indian currency. Sources said the payment in Indian currency would help vendors get more than 90 per cent of the Make in India material in the project.

Boeing ,Lockheed Martin , Saab , Mig. Global aircraft manufacturers, including Irkut Corporation and Dassault Aviation, are expected to participate in the tender.
