Rajya Sabha elections: Congress dominates in Rajasthan, BJP dominates in Karnataka


- Voting took place in 16 seats in four states, with cross-voting in two states

- Modi congratulates BJP, including Nirmala Sitharaman, for getting three seats in Karnataka, one seat for Congress

- In Rajasthan, three candidates, including one from Congress, won by one vote of BJP MLA, one seat to BJP

- Haryana - In Maharashtra, the BJP raised objections and the counting of votes was stopped

New Delhi: Polling was held for 12 vacant Rajya Sabha seats. The states which voted for these seats include Rajasthan, Haryana, Maharashtra and Karnataka. In Rajasthan, three Congress candidates have won, while in Karnataka, three BJP candidates have won. Among them is Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. While one seat in Karnataka went to the Congress.

The three BJP candidates who have won in Karnataka include Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, actor-politician Jaggesh and MLC Lehar Singh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the BJP candidates for winning three seats in Karnataka. In Rajasthan, the BJP won one seat while the Congress won three. Like Rajasthan, Karnataka also had cross-voting.

When Congress leader Jairam Ramesh won, he accused the BJD of being the BJP's B team, proving it by not supporting Congress candidate Mansoor Ali Khan.

Shobhara Kushwaha, an MLA from Dholpur in Rajasthan, had suspended Congress candidate Pramod Tiwari from the BJP for voting. The Congress candidate won by one vote of Shobha Rani. In Rajasthan, Congress' Pramod Tiwari, Randeep Surjewala and Mukul Wasnik won.

While BJP-backed independent candidate Subhash Chandra lost. And the only BJP candidate, Ghanshyam Tiwari, won. A total of eight Rajya Sabha seats were vacated in 18 states, of which candidates were elected unopposed in 21 seats, while voting was held in the remaining 15 seats.
