North Korea Missile Test: North Korea tests 8 ballistic missiles

Pyongyang, Ta. 05 June 2022 Sunday

North Korea has fired eight ballistic missiles into the sea off its east coast. The horrific launch comes a day after the top US envoy left Seoul for South Korea. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the missile was fired from the Sunan area of the North Korean capital, Pyongyang.

The Japanese news agency also quoted a government source as saying that North Korea had fired some missiles. In recent weeks, leader Kim Jong-un has tested several missiles, including his largest intercontinental ballistic missile.

Korea is preparing for a nuclear test

US Special Envoy Sung Kim met with his South Korean and Japanese counterparts in Seoul on Friday. North Korea is preparing for its first nuclear test since 2017 to prepare for all contingencies. The Japanese government also said it had launched a suspected ballistic missile in the north.

Washington has made it clear to Pyongyang that it is open to diplomacy. Last week, the United States called for more UN sanctions on North Korea over its ballistic missile launch, but China and Russia vetoed the suggestion. The first such sanctions were imposed on North Korea in 2006 after the UN Security Council publicly split, when North Korea conducted its first nuclear test.

In recent weeks, North Korea has tested several missiles, including its largest intercontinental ballistic missile. North Korea's final test came on May 25 when US President Joe Biden launched three missiles after concluding a trip to Asia.

South Korean officials said at the time that the first missile was the North's largest ICBM, the Hwasong-17, while the second unspecified missile failed mid-flight. The third missile was a short-range ballistic missile.

South Korean President Yoon-suk-yol, who took office on May 10, agreed with Biden to increase bilateral military exercises to deter North Korea.
