JDU-BJD, YSRCP fear spoils game despite BJP's confidence in winning presidential election

- For this election, the NDA will have to ensure that everyone stays together: it has happened before that some elements did not vote for the NDA candidate.

New Delhi: Though the BJP-led NDA is confident of its candidate's victory in the post-presidential elections, the BJP has taken steps to secure the government of parties like YSRCP, BJD and JDU for greater certainty. The announcement of his candidature for the presidency is expected to begin after the Rajya Sabha elections on Friday.

With this, the NDA will have to ensure that its allies remain a group as it has happened before that some of the allies did not vote as the official NDA candidate. Therefore, it is becoming imperative to keep parties like YSRCP and BJD together. These parties have always supported issue-based bills. The JDU voted for Pranab Mukherjee. Mukherjee was the UPA's presidential candidate in 2014. Pratibha Patil also got Shiv Sena votes in 2009 for provincial reasons. Because they are originally from Maharashtra.

A BJP leader said the BJP has been at loggerheads with JDU leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the past few weeks. As a result, the relationship between the two has come to a standstill. They also disagree on caste-census and anti-conversion laws. They believe these laws are not needed.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik called on Prime Minister Modi on May 30. The presidential candidate was also likely to be discussed at the time. Since then till today BJP has been holding discussions with BJD.

The support of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP's Jaganmohan Reddy is also required. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. BJP is in power in 12 states. It also has a decisive majority in the Lok Sabha. It has more than 100 MPs in the Rajya Sabha. The date for the presidential election and the date of counting of votes have also been announced. Yet there is no clarity for the BJP candidate. Some sources said that the candidate could be a woman belonging to Scheduled Tribes. Some believe that a woman in South India could be the BJP's candidate for the top post in the nation.
