IAS officer's son killed during police investigation, family members charged with murder

The son of an IAS officer was shot dead in Chandigarh. The deceased has been identified as Karthik Popli. He was the son of IAS officer Sanjay Popli. In the whole affair, Sanjay Popli has accused the police of murder. He alleges that police shot his son in front of his eyes. While the police are calling the whole incident a suicide.

Karthik Popli was arrested by the police in a corruption case. A resident of Popley's neighborhood said a police team had come to the accused's house to investigate the incident. This happened in the meantime. However, investigators say the incident took place when they returned from a search of Popli's home. Sanjay Popli has blamed the investigating officers for the whole affair. He said the police shot my son standing in front of me. I am a witness to this.

Chandigarh police say 12 kg of gold was seized from Sanjay Popli's house. Nine gold bricks of one kg, 49 gold biscuits, 12 gold coins have been recovered from his house. Three kilos of silver bricks have also been found. All the phones hidden in a store room have also been found. A police official said Karthik shot himself while grabbing the bag. A leather bag containing 4 iPhones, Samsung folder phones, smartwatches and other belongings have been seized, police said.

Karthik shot himself during the proceedings. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Monday evening arrested IAS officer Sanjay Popli and one of his associates for allegedly soliciting one per cent bribe to approve a tender for laying sewerage pipes in Nawanshahr. After which the team reached his residence even today. This incident has happened in the meantime. The incident has heated up the political atmosphere in the entire state.
