A bench of the Bombay High Court headed by Justice SS Shinde heard more than 190 cases on Thursday, sitting longer than the normal working hours. Normal hours for the High Court are from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Even on Friday, the bench sat till 08:30 pm and heard various criminal cases.

A bench headed by Justice SS Shinde sat till 08:00 pm on Thursday and a list of more than 200 cases was prepared for that day's hearing. The bench decided to sit for more than the working hours as the board could not meet.

The list prepared includes criminal writ petitions, parole and furlough applications. The bench had prepared a list of more than 200 cases for hearing on Thursday.

There is nothing new for the Bombay High Court judge, who sits late to hear the case. Recently retired Justice SJ Kathawala was also known to sit late in his board to complete the hearing of the case. He heard about 150 cases in one sitting.

Due to the increase in vacancies in the High Court, the judges are working overtime to ensure that they hear as many cases as possible in one day.

The reopening of the High Court after the summer recess means that many benches of the High Court are sitting longer than the time allotted by the court to complete their board.
