Blinken assures Sri Lanka of US investment: assistance for economic, political challenges

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has expressed full support for Sri Lanka, which is facing an economic crisis, saying that after concluding his talks with the Sri Lankan IMF, he held talks with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and discussed the economic and political challenges facing the island nation. And also promised to help solve it.

It is well known that Sri Lanka is currently going through the most severe economic crisis since independence from Britain in 1914.

Blinken and Wickremesinghe had a phone conversation on Monday. In it, Wickremesinghe briefed Blinken on the current state of the ongoing negotiations with the IMF. He also said that Sri Lanka wants closer ties with the United States. With this they promised Blinken to provide all kinds of assistance to American investors.

Sri Lanka with IMF He has been holding talks since April 15. At that stage, the US State Department said in a statement that the minister and the prime minister discussed the economic and political challenges facing Sri Lanka. In it, the US Secretary of State pledged to support the people of Sri Lanka in these challenging times. He also lauded the reforms undertaken to uphold the democratic rule and human rights of all the people of Sri Lanka.
