Thousands of new cases of Omicron sub variant 'BA2' reported in UK

8.80 lakh new cases of corona in the US, 3567 deaths

Sub variant named 'BA2' has spread to 40 countries including India, Denmark: 1945 new cases of corona reported in Singapore

London: The Omicron variant is dominant in the UK, but the British Health Authority has identified thousands of cases of BA2, a new sub-variant of the Omicron. The UK Health Security Agency has identified more than 400 cases of this sub-variant in Britain in the first ten days of January alone.

Cases of this sub-variant have been found in 40 other countries, including India, Denmark and Sweden. The authority said there was a lot of uncertainty about the mutation in the viral genome, but recently there has been a surge in cases of this sub-variant in India and Denmark. In Denmark, 33,835 new cases of corona and 25 deaths were reported.

"The speed at which this sub-variant is spreading is astonishing to us," said French epidemiologist Antoine Flaholt. The BA2, which is widespread in Asia, has now set foot in Denmark. He warned that countries need to be wary of this new sub-variant. The Authority has placed the fast-spreading BA2 in the Variant Under Investigation category.

Tom Peacock, a virologist at Imperial College London, said preliminary observations from India and Denmark showed that there was no significant difference in the severity of BA1 and BA2 infections.

I don't think this sub variant will have a big impact on the current omicron wave either. Today, 8,79,980 million new cases of corona were reported in the US and 3,567 deaths were reported. A total of 70,209,840 cases of corona were reported in the US, with a total death toll of 8,64,556. In Russia, 57,212 new cases of corona have been reported and 681 deaths have been reported.

Meanwhile, 1945 new cases of corona were reported in Singapore. 49,531 new cases of corona were also reported in Japan. In Mexico, 49,906 new cases of corona and 331 deaths were reported. Also in Belgium, 54,478 new cases of corona and 21 deaths were reported. In Poland, 40,876 new cases of corona and 193 deaths were reported.
