Elections in five states from February 10, results on March 10

The Corona epidemic is raging in the country and a third wave of Corona has begun, with the Election Commission announcing assembly elections in five states on Saturday. Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said polling would be held in seven phases in Uttar Pradesh, two phases in Manipur and one each in Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa. Voting will start in Uttar Pradesh from February 10 and the results of all the states will be declared simultaneously on March 10. In view of the Corona situation in the country, the Election Commission has banned election rallies, marches and victory processions in all the states till January 15.
In response to a question regarding the planning of elections in five states in the Corona period in the country, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra quoted a shayari as saying, "If you are sure, there is a way out. (If there is faith, there is a way out, a lamp is lit in the air.) We have to believe that we can get out of the epidemic. He also defended the election plan, saying that most of the people in Uttarakhand and Goa have given both doses. In Uttar Pradesh, 80 per cent people have been given at least one dose. In addition, all the election officials posted at the polling booths will be assured that both the doses have been given.
According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission, Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in the country, will go to the polls in seven phases, with the first phase on February 10 and the final phase on March 9. The second phase of polling in the state will be held on February 15, the third on March 20, the fourth on March 9, the fifth on March 9 and the sixth on March 3. In Manipur, people will go to the polls in the first phase on February 9 and in the second phase on March 3. Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa will go to the polls in a single phase on February 14. The counting of votes in all the five states will take place on March 10.
Announcing the election time guidelines, the chief election commissioner said holding elections during the Corona epidemic was a daunting task. As a result, road shows, bike rallies, processions or walks will not be allowed in any of the states in the country till January 15. The situation will be reviewed after the 15th. If the situation is under control then some concessions will be given. Political parties will be able to conduct door-to-door campaigns, but only a maximum of five people will be able to participate.
Corona's guidelines must be strictly followed during the election campaign. Political parties will arrange for masks and sanitizers to avoid corona for Locon involved in the campaign. No victory procession will be allowed after the counting of votes. The Election Commission has recommended that political parties campaign in digital mode as long as possible. Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said that all election programs of political parties would be videographed. The parties will be required to declare the criminal record of their candidates. Digital techniques will be adopted for free, fair and transparent elections. Wheelchairs will also be provided for the disabled at each booth.
