Woman becomes famous for rape story: Innocent spent 15 years in jail


New Delhi: A woman who became famous for writing a book on rape in New York has been sentenced to 16 years in prison despite being innocent. The man was always saying he did not commit the rape. He was eventually acquitted by the New York State Supreme Court. While the book written by the rape victim was a best seller.

The Supreme Court acquitted 61-year-old Anthony Broadwater of rape charges after 16 years. Broadwater has consistently denied that it raped the author of Lovely Bones. Anthony Broadwater spent 16 years in prison after being convicted in 1982. According to his lawyers, he was denied parole at least five times because he did not plead guilty to the charges. He also passed the lie detector test twice.

Anthony Broadwater has appealed against the sentence five times. Finally, Supreme Court Judge Gordon Coffey acquitted Broadwater of the rape charge and other related cases. Sebold alleged through his novel that she was raped in 1981. He remembered seeing Anthony Broadwater on the street five months after the rape. But the police could not identify Broadwater in the lineup. Broadwater was convicted, however. It was only later that Anthony Broadwater repeatedly stated that he had not been raped. Broadwater wept bitterly after the verdict.
