Dehradun, Ta. 20

The journey to Kedarnath Dham, which is evolving into a new paradigm in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream, will become easier in the near future. For this, a Detailed Development Project Report (DPR) has been prepared on the construction of ropeway from Sonprayag to Kedarnath. Ropeway work has been started not only for Kedarnath but also for Hemkund Sahib.

Public tenders have been invited so that private sector companies can show interest in the construction of this ropeway. According to Travel Secretary Dilip Jawalkar, the Kedarnath ropeway will be one of the longest ropeways in the world once it is completed. Its length will be 11.5 km and Kedarnath can be reached from Sonprayag in just 5 minutes.

For Kedarnath Dham, situated at an altitude of 11,500 feet above sea level, the trek from Gorikund to Dham is about 15 km. Meanwhile, the need for construction of ropeway was also emphasized if Kedarpuri was developed in a new format in line with the Prime Minister's vision. Similarly, there was a demand for ropeway for Hemkund Sahib. To reach Hemkund Saheb, one has to cover a distance of about five kilometers on foot from Ghangharia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Kedarnath on November 5 that work on the ropeway for Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib was underway. Work on this will now be expedited. According to Tourism Secretary Dilip Jawalkar, the government has signed a MoU with the National Highway Authority for the construction of ropeways in the state.

A company has been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing DPR for ropeway construction of Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib of the Authority.
