More than four lakh returns are being filed daily

Deadline for filing returns 31st December: Income tax department advises to file returns as early as possible to avoid last minute rush.

New Delhi: More than three crore income tax returns have been filed so far for the financial year 2020-21 and taxpayers who have not yet filed their returns are advised to file their returns as early as possible, the finance ministry said in a statement today.

The finance ministry further said that more than four lakh income tax returns are being filed daily. This number is steadily rising as the last date for filing returns approaches 31 December.

The income tax department is urging the taxpayers to file their returns as soon as possible through e-mail, SMS and media propaganda so that the taxpayers do not delay in filing their tax returns.

The income tax department further said that taxpayers who have not yet filed their income tax returns for the assessment year 2021-22 are advised to file their returns as early as possible to avoid last minute rush.

The income tax department further said that all taxpayers should look at Form-26AS and Annual Information Statement (AIS) before filing an income tax return.

The income tax department said that along with the AIS statement, taxpayers should compare their passbook, interest certificate, Form 16 and capital gains tax from the brokerage.

According to the Income Tax Department, 82.80 lakh refunds have been paid so far for the financial year 2020-21. In order to ensure that the refund does not fail, it should be ensured that there is a page link with the bank account mentioned in the ITR. So far, 3.03 crore returns for the financial year 2021-22 have been filed.
