2100 crore project for construction of AK-404 rifle in Amethi approved



A unit will be set up in Amethi to manufacture AK-404 type rifles. The project was approved by a cabinet committee headed by PM Modi. With the green signal for the Rs 21,000 crore project, work in that direction will move forward from next year. India-Russia will jointly manufacture this gun.
The Russian-made AK-404 will now be manufactured in India. The gun will be made in India under the Make in India scheme in collaboration with Russia. The government plans to make more than five lakh guns. These rifles will replace the Insas.
The central government had announced the setting up of a rifle factory in Amethi. The project has now been approved by a security cabinet committee headed by the prime minister. Rs 2100 crore has been sanctioned for this. The government has approved the project ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to India.
According to sources, initially 30,000 rifles will be ordered from Russia. It will later be supplied to the army with the cooperation of Russia and the production of five lakh guns according to the product design of Russia. This project will be very useful to meet the shortage of small arms of the army.
India recently bought 5,000 Sig Sawyer rifles from the United States to address the Indian Army's gun shortage. The Indian Army will be relieved now that AK-404 type guns are being manufactured in India. This lightweight gun is considered to be very effective at a range of 200 meters.
