New Delhi: No case of Omicron has been registered in the country so far, a government official has claimed. In Karnataka, one of the two tourists from South Africa had a different symptom from Delta. With 8,309 new cases of corona reported in the country, the number of active cases reached a 544-day low of 1,03,859, the health ministry said.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning about a new variant of the Covid-19 Omicron found in South Africa last week. A senior central government official said that a variant of Omicron has not been found in India yet. But international tourists are being closely monitored to prevent such a virus from entering India.

The genome sequences of tourists with positive samples are analyzed. The Center has issued stringent guidelines for travelers from hazardous countries following the rapid spread of the new omicron variant of the corona virus, which is expected to be highly contagious. It also asked the states to increase testing and surveillance and update on the health front.

Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhakar said the sample of one of the two persons from South Africa in Bengaluru was different from the Delta variant. He said he could not say anything officially at the moment.

They are exposed to ICMR. The total number of corona cases in the country has risen to 8,309, the lowest level in the last 544 days on a daily basis, reaching 3,45,80,832. The number of active cases also reached a 544-day low of 1,03,859.
