CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Wednesday quashed an earlier AIADMK government's order to transfer former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa's official residence Ved Nilayam as one of her monuments. Jayalalithaa's residence is located in the posh Garden area of ​​Chennai.

Jayalalithaa's niece J Deepa Jayakumar, and her brother J. Deepak had filed petitions challenging the order of the former Tamil Nadu government in the High Court, which was heard by Justice Shri N.K. Sheshasai had revoked the order of the previous government of the state. The state's former AIADMK government had on July 22, 2020 issued an order under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 to transfer Jayalalithaa's residence as a monument. Was. It also allowed the Income Tax Department to recover the amount due from the applicant.

Jayalalithaa's residence was spread over a large complex with her office, library, guest waiting room and conference hall. It is said that Jayalalithaa's mother bought the property in 1960 and Jayalalithaa lived in it for 30 years. Many dignitaries and veteran political leaders, including the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi, came to the bungalow to pay a visit to Jayalalithaa.
