New Delhi: Amid US opposition, Russia has kept its promise and started supplying S-400 missile defense system to India. Russian officials say they have begun providing surface-to-air missile systems. Dmitry Shugaev, director of Russia's FSMTC, said the system had been launched as planned.

Russia and India signed an agreement in October 2018 for the missile system. Russia has begun providing defense systems after finalizing the 5 billion deal. Five units of the S-400 air defense missile system are currently being procured. Earlier, the US had warned India not to buy the system from Russia.

The warning was issued by then US President Donald Trump but India ignored it and responded by saying it had the right to buy arms for its own protection. In 2019, India handed over about 800 800 million to Russia for the first payment of this defense system.

The S-400 is Russia's most advanced surface-to-air missile defense system. Which is considered more advanced than all previous systems. The United States has imposed sanctions on Turkey over its purchase of a similar defense system from Russia, so the United States is likely to take similar action against India.
