In Naxal-affected stronghold Chiroli, police shot dead three Naxalites

In a major operation in Maharashtra's Naxal-affected stronghold Chiroli district, police have killed eight Naxalites in the Gyarapatti forest. The C-30 unit of Maharashtra Police had taught the Naxals a lesson during the encounter operation. Three policemen were injured in the incident. According to police sources, the bodies of three Naxalites were found near the border of Chhattisgarh in Maharashtra. The slain Naxals are being identified and investigated.


Among the Naxalites killed was a top commander. Naxals opened fire near Ghanora while police were conducting a search operation. In retaliation, the Naxals tried to flee to the jungle. The crackdown on Naxals began early in the morning. Initially there was a collision near Mardintola village which continued during the day. The police commando team was informed that a group of Naxalites was passing through the forest and approaching the fort Chiroli. So the police were already ready to deal with any situation.
