A very shocking revelation has been made by the internal documents of Facebook. According to the details, before the general election of India in 2019, Facebook had implemented a voluntary code to avoid the strict social media rules of the Election Commission. He also persuaded the Election Commission officials for this.

The revelation was made in a public document by Frances Hogan, a former employee of Facebook. Documents released make it clear that Facebook has put forward the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) for a voluntary code of conduct.

According to an Election Commission document, it wanted a strict regulatory framework to curb social media during the election. A spokesman for the Election Commission said in a statement that it was "unaware" of Facebook's internal report but that the claim was not true. This is because political advertising is banned on electronic media along with social media just 48 hours before voting in any election.

A Meta spokeswoman responded via email. "We are not alone in creating a voluntary code of conduct in India," he said. Other social media companies were also among those who persuaded the Election Commission to do so.
