Existing vaccines against omicron form may be considered as a weapon: Guleria

New Delhi, Dt
Omicro, a new variant of the corona virus, has caused a stir around the world. At such a time, the director of AIIMS in Delhi, Dr. Randeep Guleria has warned that existing anti-coronary vaccines against the Omicron form are unlikely to be effective. On the other hand, more than 50 people, including the elderly, have tested positive for corona despite taking both doses of corona vaccine at a home in Thane.
The director of AIIMS, Delhi, Dr. Randeep Guleria said that more than 30 mutations have been reported in the spike protein field of the new form of corona virus, Omicron. A new form of 'immunosuppression mechanism' is likely to be developed to reduce the effectiveness of the corona vaccine against it. As a result, there is a need to seriously evaluate the effectiveness of vaccines, including the corona vaccine currently used in India.
Meanwhile, following Prime Minister Modi's directives that the new form of Corona Omicron spread across the world, the Home Ministry in a meeting on Sunday reviewed the decision to start regular international flights from December 15 and directed the states to increase testing and inspection. States have also begun imposing restrictions on the spread of the omikron form, as well as searching for tourists from countries considered "dangerous" in the past month. The government has declared 12 countries, including South Africa, China, Botswana, Britain, Brazil, Israel, Bangladesh, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore and Hong Kong as "dangerous countries" and will quarantine tourists for 15 days.
The health ministry said a total of 2.3 new cases of corona were reported in the country on Sunday, with another 31 deaths. With this, the total number of cases of corona was 2,3,7,8 while the death toll was 2,8,6. However, the number of active cases dropped to 1,08,31, the lowest in a year and a half. Despite taking both doses of corona vaccine in a household in Thane district of Maharashtra, more than 50 people, including the elderly, have tested positive for corona.
