The Delhi government claimed to be making every effort at its own level to control the pollution. The government first sprayed a special type of solution to prevent straw burning. The government then banned the sale and storage of fireworks in Delhi. However, on the night of Diwali, all the efforts of the government failed.

Air quality in Delhi and the National Capital Region has deteriorated drastically. The Air Quality Index (AQI) of many areas of Noida and Ghaziabad along with many areas of Delhi is also looking worrisome. By midnight, air quality in most parts of Delhi had crossed critical levels.

In addition to several areas in Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad in UP recorded AQI 999. Even in the morning, the air AQI level was 999. Notably, a maximum of 999 can be recorded when AQI is measured. There is no option more than 999 in the measurement of AQI.

In these circumstances, it is said, the air quality is even worse than 999. An AQI between 400 and 500 is also considered serious. Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad also recorded AQI 999 in the morning, which is double the highest level in the critical range.

The situation in Delhi comes at a time when the government has banned the sale of fireworks there. Despite the strict restrictions from the government, people set off fireworks on Diwali. This led to a drop in air quality and a sharp drop in air quality by 11:30 p.m.
