Crops against international pressure. Zukyu: pave the way for Kulbhushan's appeal

The event is seen as a triumph of Indian diplomatic policy

Crop to grant Kulbhushan the right to appeal challenging a military court ruling. Parliament passed the law

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's parliament on Wednesday passed a law in a joint session to give Kulbhushan Jadhav, an Indian national sentenced to death in a Pakistani jail, the right to file a review petition challenging a military court ruling.

Of course, it is not uncommon for Pakistan to have pity on Kulbhushan and pass a law granting him this right, but the reality is that the International Court of Justice had earlier in Pakistan's favor in Kulbhushan's case, urging Pakistan to uphold the death sentence passed on Kulbhushan. Any arrangements for review will be mandatory,

This means that Pakistan cannot execute Kulbhushan without reviewing his sentence, which is seen as a major victory for India's diplomatic policy. Kulbhushan Jadhav, a retired officer of the Indian Navy, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court in April 2017 on charges of espionage and terrorism.

India had appealed against the sentence to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in which India had lodged a complaint against the Pakistani government alleging that Kulbhushan was eligible for consular access (meeting with Indian embassy officials) under international law but was denied by the Pakistani government.

However, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, after hearing arguments from both the parties, urged Kulbhushan to grant consular access to India and facilitate a review of his sentence.
