New Delhi: A total of nine people, including four children, were killed when a house collapsed amid heavy rains in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu, officials said. Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased.

The depression across the Bay of Bengal crossed the coast between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh this morning, the Indian Meteorological Department said in a statement. The meteorological department further said that the weather system will gradually weaken.

The meteorological department has forecast heavy rains in some parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Rains lashed the northern districts of Tamil Nadu and neighboring Puducherry this morning.

Meanwhile, air quality in the national capital, Delhi, remained poor even today. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's Quality Index (AQI) stood at 381 in the evening. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature was recorded at 10.90 degrees Celsius and the maximum at 22.4 degrees Celsius in Delhi today.
