New Delhi: Due to the coal crisis in the country, some power units do not have enough coal to last a day. Coal is found daily and electricity is generated. The number of such units is three each in Uttar Pradesh-Haryana and two each in Maharashtra and West Bengal.

The shortage of coal in these power units can be estimated from the data provided on the site of the Central Electricity Authority. According to the data available on the website on October 11, there is not even a day's reserve of coal in the country's 18 power units. Power plants in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand are also facing coal shortages. This means that if the coal received by these power units is reduced or delayed for one day, power generation may be suspended or stopped.

Generally, the reserve stock of coal in these power units is 90 days. The generating capacity of these power units is 19.50 MW. In addition to these power units, the condition of some other power units is also critical. Of the 9 power units with a generating capacity of 2.50 MW, only one day's reserve stock. While there are 20 power units which have stock for only two days. While 31 power units have enough stock to last for three days. According to the website, the decline in coal supply was due to non-preparation of stock by the plants, arrears of coal companies at the plants and difficulties in transporting coal.
