Red alert of heavy rains in Uttarakhand, Chardham Yatra halted, all schools closed


- About 5,000 vehicles traveling to Kedarnath get stuck in Sonprayag and Guptakashi

A red alert has been issued for heavy rains in Uttarakhand along with many other parts of the country. The government has gone into alert mode amid fears of heavy rains across the state. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has left Ayodhya unfinished and returned to Uttarakhand. He also ordered all officers to remain alert.

All schools in the state have been ordered to close in view of the possibility of heavy rains. Along with this 29 teams of SDRF have been deployed in different districts of the region. At the same time, travel to Chardham has also been banned.

The administration has banned any traveler from going above Rishikesh. There are several km long traffic jams on the National Highway. The next 2 days could prove to be very heavy for the region, according to the Meteorological Department. The meteorological department in Teva has advised to be vigilant and not to travel unnecessarily.

In this regard, the government has banned Kedarnath and Badrinath pilgrimages. All passengers are being sent back. The situation is that about 5,000 vehicles traveling to Kedarnath have been stranded in Sonprayag and Guptakashi. Travelers who have already set out for the mountains or reached a tourist spot before the red alert was issued have been stopped in Rishikesh and Narendranagar and asked to return.

The state government has directed all the district collectors to remain vigilant. At the same time, 29 teams of SDRF have been sent to different districts.
