New Delhi: 11.5 lakh employees of Indian Railways have been given Dussehra gifts. The Union Cabinet has announced a bonus equal to 3 days' salary to these employees. However, the employees have demanded a bonus of 20 days instead of 8. At present, non-gazetted employees of the railways are paid a minimum salary of Rs 5,000 per month. So that an employee will be given a bonus of Rs 12,31 for 3 days salary. This will benefit 11.5 lakh employees.

On the other hand, the burden on the government will be around Rs 15 crore. Railway Board Chairman and COO Sunit Sharma said the bonus would be distributed to employees before Dussehra. Earlier also such bonus was given by the government. These employees also did their duty when trains were run by the railways for laborers amid the Corona epidemic.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur told a press conference after the Union Cabinet meeting that the three-day productivity linked bonus is for non-gazetted employees. Including railway employees. RPF and RPSF employees are not entitled to this bonus.

The Union Minister said the decision would benefit millions of railway employees. Railways gives productivity linked bonus to its non-gazetted employees every year. The railways had planned to give a 3-day bonus which was opposed by the employees. Later, the railways extended it to 3 days. However, railway employees have demanded a 30-day bonus.
