Petrol prices have been hiked by 3 paise and diesel by 20 paise. The country's state-owned oil marketing companies have once again hiked petrol and diesel prices as international crude prices hit their highest level since 2014.

After today's hike, the price of a liter of petrol in Delhi has gone up to Rs 102.5 and a liter of diesel to Rs 71.50. In Mumbai, the price of a liter of petrol has gone up to Rs 102.5 and a liter of diesel to Rs 2.50.

It may be mentioned that petrol and diesel prices vary from state to state as VAT rates vary from state to state. With fuel prices being hiked for the sixth time in a week, petrol prices have gone up to over Rs 100 in most cities across the country. In Bhopal and Indore in Madhya Pradesh, the price of petrol has crossed Rs 111.

On the other hand, with diesel prices being hiked for the ninth time in two weeks, the price of diesel has crossed Rs 100 in some cities in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Despite global oil shortages, OPEC nations have not changed their previously determined policy on crude production, pushing international crude prices to a seven-year high.

International crude oil prices have risen to over ૫ 61.71. A month ago, the same crude was below 3. Indian oil marketing companies did not raise prices from July 15 to September 4.

Indian oil companies have started raising prices of diesel from September 4 and petrol from September 4. Since then, diesel prices have been hiked by Rs 7.5 per liter and petrol by Rs 1.50 per liter.
