The Jammu and Kashmir government has taken an important decision to give the right to buy and sell agricultural land to Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs. It has also opened up agriculture, horticulture and other related sectors to all communities. Laws will also be amended for this. The decision will benefit about 1.7 million people. These 3 communities have been demanding rights for a very long time.

A meeting of the state administrative council, chaired by Deputy Governor Manoj Sinha, on Tuesday decided that those involved in agriculture could transfer their land to non-farmers. The concerned DC will give conditional approval for this. DC will be able to allow the sale of 20 kanals of land for agriculture and allied activities.

With this 80 kanals of land can be sold for horticulture. This process must be completed within 30 days of applying for the sale of the land. Jammu and Kashmir has immense potential in agriculture and allied sectors which typically require up to 80 kanals of land. The government's decision will also give non-farmers the opportunity to acquire land for agriculture and allied activities. This will increase investment prospects in agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry.

According to a government spokesperson, the Mahajan, Khatri and Sikh communities have long been demanding the right to buy and sell agricultural land. The decision is expected to lead to a major improvement in the agricultural sector. This decision will also open the door to economic growth and employment.
