In metros, the price of tomato has gone up by Rs. Reached above 93

Vegetable revenues declined in all metropolitan markets

Unseasonal rains washed away farmers' crops and led to falling vegetable prices in the market.

New Delhi: The price of a kg of tomato rose sharply to Rs. 93 was reached. However, due to unseasonal rains in some parts of the country, farmers' crops have been washed away.

In a metropolis like Kolkata, a kilo of tomato costs Rs. 93 per kg in Chennai. 60, in Delhi Rs. 59 and Rs. 53 kg of tomatoes were sold at Rs. According to the data released by the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the retail price of one kg of tomato in 50 out of 175 cities of the country is Rs. 50 was spoken.

However, even in the wholesale market in Kolkata, the price of a kg of tomato is Rs. 84, while in the wholesale market of Chennai, Rs. 52, Rs. 30 and Rs. 2950 was quoted.

In some states, which have extensive horticultural cultivation of vegetables, the unseasonal rains this year have washed away the crops of the farmers, leading to a decline in the market income of vegetables and the demand of the people remained unchanged.

The Mumbai wholesale market recorded a revenue of 241 tonnes of tomatoes on October 16, as against 290 tonnes a week earlier. In Delhi's wholesale market, the tomato revenue was 528.9 tonnes while in Kolkata, it was 545 tonnes, according to data released by the Center.

Due to rains we do not get good quality goods even from the market. Consumers only buy good quality tomatoes, no one even touches the rotten tomatoes which causes us financial loss. "We are keeping the prices a little higher to offset the loss," said Shivlal Yadav, a trader at a vegetable market in Delhi's Karol Bagh.
