Geeta Gopinath will step down as chief economist at the IMF

Geeta Gopinath, chief economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will step down in January next year and return to the Department of Economics at the prestigious Harvard University, the IMF said in a statement.

Geeta Gopinath, a 6-year-old Indian-American economist, joined the IMF in January 2015 as the chief economist. He was previously Professor of International Studies and Economics at Harvard University.

Kristalina Georgieva, managing director of the IMF, announced that the selection process for Geeta Gopinath's successor would begin soon. He further said that Geeta Gopinath's contribution to the IMF is important. We have benefited greatly from deep knowledge in international finance and macroeconomics.

Born in India in December 191, Geeta Gopinath received her schooling in Kolkata. He graduated from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi. He holds a post-graduate degree from the Delhi School of Economics. He then did a PAD in Economics from Princeton University in the United States.
