The President has declared a state of emergency in the country and deployed troops in the jails to prevent the fire from spreading to other jails. A convoy of 200 more police personnel was deployed at the jail where the violence took place.

The frequent incidents of small-scale clashes between prisoners of different gangs in jails have posed a major challenge to the government.
