By-elections of three Lok Sabha and 30 Assembly seats in 14 states

New Delhi: Criminal cases have been registered against six of the nine candidates contesting the Assembly and Lok Sabha by-elections in different states. This was stated in a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), an organization that monitors the electoral process and works on reforms. The ADRA had analyzed the affidavits of 21 out of 6 candidates in the next by-elections for 6 Lok Sabha and 20 Assembly seats in 14 states. Voting on all these seats will take place on October 30.

An analysis of the affidavits of six candidates for the Assembly by-elections has revealed that nine candidates (12 per cent) have filed criminal cases against themselves.

The ADR report states that 6 (15 per cent) of them have reported serious criminal cases against themselves. The report further states that a total of 9 per cent, or 5 per cent, of the candidates are crorepatis and the average wealth of the candidates contesting the Assembly by-elections is 4.5 crore. ૯૩ Candidates have shown that they are in debt. In which there are 18 women.
