Call for 26th nationwide protest by farmers' organizations

The peasant movement will have 11 months on the 26th

SKM also demands expulsion and arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra for Lakhimpur violence

New Delhi: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has called for a nationwide protest on October 26 in connection with the violence in Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh, demanding the expulsion and arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra and the end of 11 months of farmers' agitation.

SKM, a joint forum of farmers' organizations, said it had demanded the central government to repeal the three agricultural laws, provide legal assurance of a minimum support price (MSP) for farmers and all agricultural produce and meet the demands for Ajay Mishra's expulsion and arrest.

Farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have been pitching tents on the Delhi border - Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur border since November 26 last year to protest against the three agricultural laws passed by the central government. SKM said its organization has called on all parties to intensify their demand for the expulsion and arrest of Ajay Mishra Tenny on October 26, with a nationwide protest.

Farmers will picket and march on the 26th from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm. Four of the eight people killed in the October 3 violence in Lakhimpur were farmers who were allegedly crushed by a car carrying BJP workers.

The other dead included two BJP workers and their driver. In addition, SKM has also decided to hold its Mahapanchayat in Lucknow. The Mahapanchayat was earlier scheduled to be held from October 26 to November 22.
