"Winning the Air India bid is very good news for the Tata Group," Ratan Tata wrote in his note. There is no doubt that re-seating Air India will take a lot of hard work. It is hoped that the decision will provide a huge market opportunity for the Tata Group's presence in the aviation industry. Ratan Tata also said that there was a time when Air India, under the leadership of JRD Tata, gained a reputation as one of the most prestigious airlines in the world. Now the Tata Group will have a chance to recreate the image and reputation that Air India had in the beginning. He would have been very happy if JRD Tata was among us. In his note, Ratan Tata thanked the government for its current policy of opening select industries to the private sector.
Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekhar has called today a historic day. "It is a rare privilege for our group to own and operate Air India," he said. Our effort will be to create a world class airline that every Indian is proud of. On this occasion, I pay tribute to JRD Tata, the pioneer of the Indian aviation industry.
