Afghans must be stopped from becoming source of terrorism: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday attended the G20 summit on Afghanistan. Participating in a virtual meeting of G20 countries, Prime Minister Modi emphasized on preventing the Afghan region from becoming a source of extremism and terrorism. He also called on the Afghan people to form an inclusive government with immediate and unhindered humanitarian assistance.
At the G20 summit, PM Modi said that India has played an important role in the overall development of Afghanistan in the last two decades. India has provided assistance to more than 200 projects to change the social and economic situation in Afghanistan. It also significantly improved the condition of the youth and women there. These efforts created a special spirit of friendship between the people of India and Afghanistan. The whole of India is saddened by the way there is still a state of humanitarian catastrophe and starvation. He urged the international community to stand with the needy people of Afghanistan in this crisis.
Prime Minister Modi said that a unified international response was needed to bring about the desired change in Afghanistan. Apart from this, it is difficult to bring about the desired change in the situation in Afghanistan. The inclusive administration of Afghanistan should also include women and minorities. A solution must be found at the political level to sustain the socio-economic development achieved by the international community in Afghanistan over the past 40 years and to eradicate radical ideology. This special meeting of the G20 was held on the issue of Afghanistan. The G20 summit was hosted by Italy. Prime Minister Modi also endorsed the important role of the United Nations in Afghanistan.
