Thus, the Aam Aadmi Party will contest all the 202 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, senior party leader Sanjay Singh said in a statement. He further said that it would be a big mistake to take AAP lightly as AAP has been stronger than the Congress in the recent panchayat elections.

AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, has made it clear that it is not in talks with any party to form an alliance for next year's Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

"Our party is stronger than the Congress in the state," AAP in-charge Singh from Uttar Pradesh told reporters. In the panchayat elections, the Congress won 70 seats. When we won 6 seats. You have got a total of 20 lakh votes in the Panchayat elections.

In the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Congress won only seven out of 202 seats. The Aam Aadmi Party has been the main opposition party in Punjab since it came to power in Delhi. It is also trying to establish bases in Goa, Uttarakhand and Gujarat.

It may be mentioned that in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Arvind Kejriwal was standing against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi. However, they lost to Modi and finished second.
