BJP MP Varun Gandhi from Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh has once again raised his voice in support of farmers. He has made some suggestions in a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Earlier in the day, Varun Gandhi tweeted a video in support of the farmers' movement.

The MP has written a letter to Yogi saying that the cost of sugarcane has gone up a lot. Against which its price has been increased by only ten rupees per quintal. The government has paid more than previous governments but farmers are yet to pay this session. He demanded that the price of a quintal of sugarcane be increased from Rs 215 to Rs 200 and the arrears be paid to the farmers.

Gandhi further said that in addition to the MSP of wheat and paddy, a bonus of Rs 500 per quintal should be paid. He also demanded that the amount given to farmers under the Prime Minister's Kisan Sanman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme be doubled to Rs 15,000 per annum. Out of which Rs. 2000 should be given by the state government.

It may be mentioned that at present, under the PM Kisan scheme, farmers are given Rs 5,000 annually. Varun Gandhi said farmers were worried about rising prices of diesel and electricity. He demanded that the state government provide a subsidy of Rs 50 per liter of diesel to farmers and reduce the price of electricity for farmers. He said both these tasks need to be done with immediate effect.

In a letter to Chief Minister Yogi, Varun Gandhi further said that fertilizers, seeds and pesticides should be provided to farmers at affordable prices. Stray beasts are also annoying cattle. The government also needs to address this issue.
