Three students commit suicide in four days in Tamil Nadu


The government has also passed a bill canceling the exam

Chennai: Making National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) compulsory for admission in various branches of medical after Std. The remaining three students had committed suicide in the last four days which had serious repercussions in the state.

The daughter of a poor man in the state's Vellore district, who was struggling to make ends meet, committed suicide today for fear of not being able to pass the Knit exam and not get admission in medical school, the third student to commit suicide this week, police said.

However, in Tamil Nadu, the state government had earlier passed a bill in the Legislative Assembly on Monday to cancel the Nit exam, and from now on only the marks of the annual Std 12 examination will be taken into account for admission in the medical faculty. Such a provision was introduced in the bill.

However, the President's signature is required to enact the bill. Only after the President signs the bill can it become law. The government used the bill as an excuse to do social justice.

The bill was supported by all the opposition parties except the BJP in the Assembly. The ruling DMK party is now arguing that the students who are studying in the examination board other than CBSE

He and the students from poor and rural areas were being treated unfairly as they could not afford the coaching class fees to pass the Nit exam. In a small village in Vellore district, a teenage student who was appearing for the Knit exam committed suicide by eating traps in her own house after her parents went to work today.
