Radicalism and Terrorism Deadly to the World: Modi's Address to the SCO Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a virtual address to the leaders of the member countries of the Shanghai Corporation Organization (SCO). In it, PM Modi termed fundamentalism and terrorism as deadly for the world, adding that member countries need to unite and fight terrorism.
Prime Minister Modi said that bigotry is the biggest challenge to peace and security. Prime Minister Modi appealed to all member states that all need to come together and give a strong fight against terrorism. Amid the online presence of Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, without naming Pakistan, said that countries that promote terrorism should also be punished and sanctions should be imposed if necessary.
Referring to Afghanistan, Modi added that fundamentalism was responsible for the lack of peace, security and internal trust between the countries. The SCO should emphasize developing a strong link to the tradition of liberalism, tolerance and inclusiveness associated with Islam. If we look at history, we can see that the culture of Central Asia was liberal and tolerant. Traditions like Sufism originated in such countries centuries ago. The SCO needs to be instrumental in spreading this tradition to the people.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the fight against extremism is not only responsible for regional security but also for the bright future of the youth of the SCO member countries and for their holistic development. If the current situation of terrorism and fundamentalism continues, it will affect the minds of millions of young people in the member countries of the organization and it could prove dangerous for the future.
PM Modi added that India is committed to developing closer ties with Central Asian countries. India is committed to every bilateral initiative.
