New Delhi: Lifting the ban on direct flights from India for the past five months, the Canadian government has said that all direct flights from India will be allowed to land at Canadian airports from Monday.

Announcing the government's decision, Canada's transport minister said in a tweet on Saturday that all direct flights from India would be allowed to land at all Canadian airports from 00.01 hours on September 27, subject to compliance with all necessary public health measures.

The minister, in his tweet, said that a passenger visiting Canada would have to submit proof of Corona's negative report taken from a recognized laboratory at Delhi Airport 18 hours before boarding the plane.

When the second wave of Corona struck India last April, the Canadian government banned all types of flights from Canada to India. Since Corona's condition improved, the government announced a date for lifting the ban several times, but the dates were changed for a number of reasons.

Welcoming the decision of the Government of Canada, Ajay Bisaria, High Commissioner of India to Canada, said that it was a decisive step towards easing and normalizing air travel between the two countries.

Now that the ban has been lifted, Air Canada and Air India have started preparations to start daily direct flights from Delhi to Toronto and Vancouver from September 27. However, passengers traveling to Canada via an indirect route through a third country must have received a negative report of Corona from a third country.
