Kabul Airport reopens for international help

Kabul, Dt

The Qatari ambassador to Afghanistan said Kabul's airport had reopened on Saturday to seek international help and would soon be ready for civil aviation. Al Jazeera reports that the runway of Hamid Karzai Airport in Kabul has been repaired. The first foreign plane landed at Kabul airport on Saturday after the departure of American troops. The plane from the United Arab Emirates came with 20 tons of food. A Taliban spokesman said a technical team and experts from Turkey, the UAE and Qatar had arrived at Kabul airport and were assisting the Taliban in starting operations at the airport. The airport will soon be open to the public. Two domestic flights from Kabul airport to Mazar-e-Sharif and Kandahar were also operated on Saturday. The UK-based Independent, meanwhile, said the US Congress would fund the United Nations and other agencies and groups to provide humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan, but would not provide any direct assistance to the Taliban government.
