India ranks second in foodgrain production but one in four children is malnourished

Shocking revelations in the 2020 index report

14% of the country's population is malnourished, anemia per second woman, child mortality rate still 3.7%

New Delhi: Despite all the claims of development, India has not come out of poverty and hunger. On the one hand, India is the second largest producer of food grains in the world while on the other hand, millions of its citizens are suffering from hunger and children are the biggest victims. One in four children in India is malnourished.

These figures are included in the Global Hunger Index 2020 report. According to the report, only 13 out of 107 countries are worse off than India in terms of malnutrition. 69 crore people in the world are malnourished. While 14% of India's population is malnourished.

Although child mortality has declined in India, so has malnutrition. At present, the infant mortality rate in India is 3.7 per cent. However, this percentage is considered higher than other countries in the world. Every third child in the country is underweight. Pregnant women suffer from poverty, ignorance, lack of education etc. which also causes children to become malnourished.

According to the report, every other woman in India is suffering from anemia. Governments are claiming that by 2030, India will be free from poverty. Experts are therefore questioning this claim as reports are coming in that the current situation is extremely bad. If we want to change the current situation, we have to take malnutrition as a movement.
