In the Pegasus espionage case, the Supreme Court gave the Center more time to file a reply

The next hearing of the case is on September 13

Supreme Court is hearing 13 petitions, including the Editors Guild of India, seeking an independent inquiry into the case.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has given the Center a little more time to file its reply to the petitions seeking an independent inquiry into the Pegasus spy case and has fixed September 13 for the next hearing in the case. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana had on August 17 issued notice to the Center on the petitions.

Apart from CJI, the bench also includes Justice Suryakant and Justice Aniruddha Bose. When the case came up for hearing before the bench on Tuesday, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Center, said the affidavit sought by the bench could not be filed due to some problems.

Tushar Mehta had appealed for the case to be heard on Thursday next Monday. Mehta said the affidavit has some problems. We have filed an affidavit but the court asked if you would like to file one more affidavit.

"We have no objection to the Centre's appeal," said Kapil Sibal, counsel appearing for senior journalist N Ram. The bench said the case should be listed on Monday. The apex court is hearing 12 petitions, including one from the Editors Guild of India, seeking an independent inquiry into the case.
