The US has ended its two-decade war in Afghanistan. The U.S. military withdrew from Kabul airport on August 30, and the Taliban have taken full control of Afghanistan. The Taliban have taken over the country dramatically in the past month, but while all this was going on, there was a phone conversation between US President Joe Biden and the then President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani. It discussed the fight against the Taliban.

On July 23, Joe Biden and Ashraf Ghani held a 14-minute conversation in which Joe Biden discussed military assistance to Afghanistan. At the same time, he told Ashraf Ghani that he needed to change his image in the fight against the Taliban because that image was deteriorating in Afghanistan and around the world.

Ashraf Ghani left Kabul about 2 weeks after the phone call. On August 15, the Taliban occupied the Presidential Palace in Kabul, and 15 days later, the United States completely withdrew from Afghanistan. That marked the end of a 20-year war.

Ashraf asked Ghani to give a plan

Joe Biden told Ashraf Ghani that he would only provide military assistance if he publicly opposed a plan to stop the Taliban. "We will continue to receive air support but we need to know what the next plan is," Biden said. Just days before the phone call, the United States backed the Afghan army and launched an air strike against the Taliban.

The US president wanted General Bismillah Khan, then secretary of defense, to be given the responsibility by Ashraf Ghani to fight the Taliban. Afghanistan put forward its plan, handed over the reins to Bismillah Khan and then America was ready to increase aid. If Biden was convinced that the 3 million Afghan soldiers the US military has trained could face 70-80 thousand Taliban.

However, the whole focus of the conversation was on the attitude of the Afghan government. If Biden had expressed concern that Ashraf Ghani's government's stance on the fight against the Taliban was not serious, it was sending the wrong message to the world. This is why the US advised that Afghanistan should come with full political leadership and hold a press conference, declare a strategy against the Taliban so as to change the image.

Ashraf Ghani showed fear of Pakistan

Judging by the conversation claimed by Reuters, it seems that the US President did enough to help the Afghan army. During that conversation, he had no idea how the future of Afghanistan would change completely in the next one month.

In the conversation, Ashraf Ghani warned the US President about Pakistan. Ghani said the Taliban was attacking once again with full force, with full support from Pakistan. Apart from that, Pakistan has also given 10-15 thousand militants so that the Taliban and Pakistani militants can fight against the Afghan army.
