Floodwaters seep into Mexican hospital, killing 16 patients

- Floods caused by torrential rains

- Possibility of death of patients due to shutdown of oxygen devices due to power outage

Tula (Mexico): Twelve patients have died when flash floods caused by torrential rains in central Mexico seeped into a hospital. However, according to sources, 17 patients are likely to have died due to the shutdown of oxygen devices due to power outages.

The National Institute for Social Security (IMSS) said on its social media site that 40 patients had been rescued in the incident. The city of Tula, 100 km north of Mexico City, was swept away by floodwaters, which inundated a government hospital, among other areas.

Patients with knee-deep water were evacuated from the hospital, according to video recorded on a camera placed inside the hospital.

Emergency personnel immediately evacuated the hospital and patients were taken to another hospital by ambulance.

According to the IMMS director, the power supply to the area was disrupted due to flooding and the hospital's generators were also switched off.
