Economic catastrophe estimated at Rs 400 crore


The worst damage to agriculture, followed by roads and bridges

Four times more damage than government estimates, number of poor families stranded

Rajkot: The floods in Saurashtra have caused an estimated loss of Rs 400 crore in a single day, with the highest loss of Rs 150 crore to agriculture in Jamnagar district and Rs 250 crore in the district. However, sources said that the initial estimate of the damage has been released. There is a possibility of more damage than that.

In Saurashtra, Meghtandav has caused a loss of Rs 40-45 crore to agriculture in Jamnagar district. Of course, floodwaters have inundated farms in many villages. The soil has been washed away. Experts have pointed out the possibility of a loss of Rs 150 crore to farmers due to clearing of crops including groundnut and cotton.

In the same way, a number of animals have been stranded in the floods. A number of roads and bridges were washed away, causing a loss of Rs 50-60 crore to roads and bridges. Older government buildings have also been severely damaged. Water intrusion in low-lying areas has left many needy families stranded. As well as houses have been severely damaged.

The loss is estimated at Rs 30-35 crore. Of course, the government has estimated a loss of Rs 10 to 15 crore. Vitantra has suffered heavy losses. S.T. A total of Rs 250 crore has been estimated for the damage caused to many government and non-government buildings, including the divisional office. In Rajkot district, like Jamnagar, a total loss of Rs 110 crore was incurred, including agricultural livestock, roads and bridges, during the preliminary estimate.

Due to Meghtandav, a total loss of Rs 30 to 40 crore has been estimated in Junagadh district including agricultural roads. Government agencies in Jamnagar, Rajkot and Junagadh are estimated to have lost Rs 100-125 crore from Meghtandav. But unofficial estimates put the loss at more than Rs 400 crore in these three districts. Of course, the correct details will be known after the survey.
