Why is Malana village in Himachal Pradesh different from other villages in India?

Shimla, August 8, 2021, Saturday

The Mughal emperor Akbar is worshiped in Juna Malana, an inland village in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. The people of this village do not believe in anyone except their Jamlu deity and Akbar. Not only that, they have Greek words in their language. Malana is the only village in India but its customs are very different from other villages in India. The people of this village have their own centuries old laws and their own rules. The people of this village do not allow any man from outside to touch their thing. If touched, a fine of one thousand rupees has to be paid. Due to many such strange traditions, tourists come to visit the village.

There is also a belief among the people of Malana village that Akbar Badshah tried to capture this village but the Jamlu deity of the village did not allow him to succeed. Then Akbar had to come to Malana again to apologize to the god Jamlu. The locals even believe that Akbar had grabbed the begging bowl of two monks begging in Delhi. He complied and prepared his own gold idol with a beggar and gave it as a gift.

Believing that this is the same idol of Akbar, the villagers worship by opening a temple once a year. This worship is taken care of by people outside the village. For this a special festival called Fagli is celebrated. The villagers follow all the old traditions as they believe in Jamlu Rishi and Akbar. The women of Malana village dance in the court of Jamal's wife Renuka every evening for three days. Some people also believe that Jamlu means Jamadagni sage.
