Under Koro's control, the Election Commission will declare immediate by-elections in West Bengal

The Election Commission has sought the views of various political parties on the issue

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has demanded that the Election Commission announce the date for the next by-elections immediately as the corona disease situation in the state is under control. By-elections are to be held in seven seats of the West Bengal Assembly.

Mamata also urged the Election Commission to be vigilant so that the democratic rights of the people are not violated. The seven assembly constituencies where the country's election commission has sought the views of political parties for holding by-elections include Jangipur, Samsherganj, Khardha, Bhabanipur, Dinahata, Shantipur and Goshaba.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who lost to BJP's Suvendu Adhikari from Nandigram seat in the last assembly elections, is likely to stand from her home Bhabanipur assembly seat. Veteran Trinamool Congress leader Sobhanadev Chattopadhyay, who was elected from there in May, resigned from his seat just days after the result. Banerjee has challenged the Nandigram election result in the Calcutta High Court.
